Unexpectedly great gift!

What a great book! I received this book as a gift, because I love to walk in the Australian bush, not because I have any interest insnakes, besides avoiding them..
"Umm, thanks," I said, trying to appear grateful.
After avoiding the book for a week, I decided I'd better read a bit of it, so when I got asked about it I could say, "Oh yes, I quite enjoyed the part about…"
So I started reading what I expected would be a dry book of facts about snakes — an hour later, I was still reading. I'd oohed, I'd aahed, and completely unexpectedly, I'd laughed.
The book does have a lot of good information, of course. Tony Harrison is a noted expert in the field, and regularly appears on Australian TV. But what I really enjoyed was the tone of the book, the banter I guess you'd call it. Harrison's co-writer David Blissett really hits the right notes, and to my surprise, even since finishing the book, I've even picked it up for a quick two minute read of an ancdote here or there — for pleasure!
Who'd have thought?
I recommend this book for anyone interested in reptiles, bushwalking, learning how to avoid snakebite, conservation, or just reading the stories a pair of knockabout Aussie blokes have to tell on a subject they're passionate about.
