History and Fiction, All Rolled Up Into One Magnificent Story!

I became curious about reading this book after learning that the main character was somewhat designed after that of Temple Houston, Sam Houston's son. I had no expectations, and oh my - how delighted I was to discover this wonderful author! How can you go wrong with beautiful writing and an exciting story, set over a period of years where so many changes took place in this Oklahoma territory? It is a great story about a family of unforgettable characters, who move to a town in Oklahoma during the late 1800's. I highly recommend this book for those who are interested in this time period, and those that just love a great story.

About the Author
Mira T. Sundara Rajan is the Canada Research Chair in Intellectual Property Law and Director of the Intellectual Property Law Program at the University of British Columbia. She has published widely on copyright issues, including a scholarly book entitled Copyright and Creative Freedom, Routledge 2006. Her work is also well-known in the European Union, where she collaborates regularly with EU bodies such as the Council of Europe, and with a number of patent offices in EU countries. She is also the editor of Intellectual Property: Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States published with regular updates by Oxford University Press. She is an expert on Indian and Russian copyright law.

With its immense capacity for adsorption from gas and liquid phases, activated carbon is a unique material. It occupies a special place in terms of producing a clean environment involving water purification as well as separations and purification in the chemical and associated industries. In these roles, it exhibits a remarkable efficiency. Effective use of activated carbon requires knowledge of the structure of its micro- and mesoporosity. Effective use also requires knowledge of the composition of the carbon surfaces on to which adsorption occurs and of the dynamics of adsorption to indicate its effectiveness in industrial use. Central to activated carbon are the activation processes which enhance original porosity, such processes using carbon dioxide, steam, zinc chloride, phosphoric acid and hydroxides of alkali metals. Mechanisms of the chemistry of these activation processes are set out. The concept of constituent graphitic crystallites within activated carbons is rejected. The concept of surface area is critically debated. This book, essentially, elaborates upon the origins of activated carbons, their structure and manufacture as well as their effectiveness for purification and separation.

Reference Book on Carbon

The book is primarily a review and compilation of the work by others. Perhaps, it is intended to be such. The charts and figures are plentiful although some are relatively crude. I consider this to be a reference book and will put it in my bookcase along with other references. However, it is difficult to locate some information until you've read the tome in it's entirety. Then you know where to look. This is a roundabout way of saying the Index and Table of Contents could be redone and more "links" added to help find things.
