Brilliant Personal Revelations for my Consulting Practice

After spending several months evaluating myself with the help of some of my mentors, colleagues and friends, the 80/20 Sales and Marketing book pretty much told me the exact same thing it has taken me months of time in dialog with others to really discover about myself. The results completely make sense. I believe they are right on target. It is a valuable and useful tool.
To be more specific, I run a consulting practice and have 30+ clients. I used the 80/20 curve tool and discovered with that tool, that I could simultaneously decrease my client load while greatly increasing my revenues, just by being more selective about which clients I choose to work with. Putting this into practice is helping me to reclaim balance between my work and personal life as well as greatly increase my financial success.
This is just one example of how 80/20 has helped me in my consulting practice. After reading it, you start to see that 80/20 can be applied everywhere. Being a marketer, I consistently apply 80/20 principles to my marketing campaigns. I couldn't recommend this book more highly for both business and personal reasons.

The Must-Read Business Book Of The Year

After having been through two different training courses with Perry on the subject of 80/20, I thought there would be little for me to learn from this book. I was wrong.
Even if you think you know everything about 80/20, even if you've already bought all of Perry's material on this topic, you need to read this book. Here are 10 good reasons to get a copy today:
1. You get $75 worth of 80/20 software tools with your purchase. Unlike many offers of this nature, these tools are very useful. I would actually pay money for them.
2. 80/20 Sales and Marketing provides the key to the treasure vault Tim Ferris teased us with. If you read "Four Hour Workweek", got excited about it, and then found yourself asking, "Yeah, but how do I actually DO that?"... then you need 80/20 Sales and Marketing.
3. Chapter 5 deals with the "curve" you must absolutely discover if you really want to understand the power, depth, and pervasiveness of the 80/20 principle. This chapter alone is worth at least 10 times the price of the book.
4. "The $2,700 Espresso Machine". This simple story will unlock a powerful understanding for you that can immediately multiply your revenue (without multiplying the amount of work you do, or the amount of money you spend on advertising). You will find it in chapter 12.
5. The chapter on "Racking the Shotgun" (chapter 7) is another chapter that is worth at least 10 times the cost of the book itself. Actually, that is a gross understatement. But if I told you the real value of this single idea, you would accuse me of hyperbole and dismiss me outright.
6. The "power of polarization", explained in Chapter 20, should be of particular interest to marketers who are concerned about their "image" in the marketplace. Is there a good reason to intentionally make people upset with you? Yes. Perry explains how to do it strategically, in a way that serves your business (and ultimately your customer).
7. There is a very deep well indeed to be explored in the Appendix. Here, you will discover how to use the software you get (as a companion to the book) to glean volumes of insight from simple, ordinary statistics.
8. Chapter 21 explains how to do $250,000 worth of critical market data research for free with just your computer, the Internet, and an afternoon to spare. The intriguing title of this chapter undersells the power and value of its contents.
9. In chapter 15, Perry clearly spells out how you can give yourself a raise, and start getting paid $1,000 an hour for the work you do. I know it sounds extraordinarily cheesy, but it is undeniably accurate. See for yourself.
10. True to the premise of the book, at the end of every chapter is a tiny stack of bullet points... The "80/20" version of that chapter it's called the Pareto Summary. A beautiful touch, and perfectly congruent with the contents of this book.
I own all of Perry's published books (well, not the one about Ethernet). This, in my opinion, is his best writing to date. Highly recommended.

Extremely valuable information - worth 100s of times the price

I have been a student of Perry Marshall for many years, and what I have learned from him has in no small way influenced the creation and growth of my business.
This book is a remarkable distillation of very smart business thinking, and provides a neat summary of much that Perry has been teaching for the past few years.
Perry is a strategic thinker, and so appeals to people who like to understand a big concept and then to apply it in various forms to their business. 80/20 is a very big - and very important - concept that has many applications to various aspects of business...and also to life.
This book will appeal to the geekier business owners. I use that term in a positive sense, because an appreciation of the value of "geek" subjects such as percentages and ratios is critical to growing a real, sustainable business. (You don't need be a math genius to get this book, just an appreciation of the importance of numbers.) If you prefer flavor-of-the month tricks, then this book might not be for you.
The bonus tools and documents that come with the book are extremely valuable. There is, for example, a cheat sheet that summarizes the book's main concepts. (That's 80/20 thinking for you - the most valuable chunk can be summarized in just a few words). There's also a link to an online tool that allows you to apply 80/20 thinking to your own business. I found this tool takes some time to get to grips with (especially for someone numbers-challenged, as I am), and perhaps the output graphs could be more detailed to be of even more concrete use. But these are just minor points. The book will give you 100x the value from the bonus tools alone.
All in all, this book is a ridiculous steal at the price it's for sale at. (Perry is also a talented writer - I found it hard to put down.)
