A comprehensive and thoroughly practical workbook for adults with ADHD

As a therpaist who works regularly with adult ADHD clients, I have found Dr. Tuckman's original book 'More Attention, Less Deficit' to be extremely informational and descriptive. His writing style and the book's organizatiation are very ADHD-friendly. His new workbook carries these themes into the practical level, with exercises aimed at identifying, simplifying, and reinforcing effective coping strategies. It would also be a choice read for ANY adult who has found more traditional organizational books to be too theoretical or too complex to be of practical use. His workbook bridges basic must-know science and workable daily living skills. Could be used independently as a self-help book or as an adjunct to professional ADHD coaching/conseling. If you struggle to stay on top of a complex life, ADHD or not, this workbook will offer effective guidance.

The problem with using books for ADHD, is 1.retaining info 2.not getting bored while reading.

This one is different!

This books is so helpful because it has you working and answering questions, you can go around to any part you want, and you won't be losing information in the process. I recommend this to anybody having complications in any realm of ADHD.

Also would help even just someone with a busy life!

Adult ADHD 101

The problems behaviors demonstrated by people with ADHD are well known, for example: disorganization, forgetting appointments, procrastinating, losing things, displaying emotion inappropriately, and being late. The solution for the ADHD person is not to "buckle down," "just focus," or "finish what you started." Nor is it to simply "try harder next time." "Just remember!" doesn't work either.

So, what works? According to Tuckman: "The solution lies in setting things up to make it more likely that the person with ADHD will stop long enough to consider ... lessons from the past before jumping into action." Tuckman holds ADHD people learn from experience. They can see clearly what they've done wrong in the past. The problem lies in applying this knowledge in the present. What this requires is making arrangements for themselves so they always have the opportunity to apply their past experience in the moment.

Highly recommended for its numerous useful exercises, and its simple explanation of complicated cognitive issues. This can be especially helpful for your career and other practical areas of your life. If you'd like help with the issues that arise in relationships from ADHD, I recommend The ADHD Effect on Marriage: Understand and Rebuild Your Relationship in Six Steps and The ADHD Marriage Workbook: A User-Friendly Guide to Improving Your Relationship, which also has lots of helpful exercises.

This is a gem of a book as the previous reviewer stated from beginners to more advanced. The Key words ,ie; memorable descriptive imagery, is given as well as further information because in my opinion some will need further explanation.

ex; " Moon in Aries- (as a mother) The vigorous individual."

Well many might want to have a little more input as to what the author means be "vigorous", and so it is given. Also the keywords are not just for the rudimentary planet, signs & houses but the planets IN the houses and the planet energies combined in aspect. Also included are positive and negative manifestaions.

I especially like the endearing method of apect interpretation in the back of the book. There is a lot of knowledge condensed here for your money here from wise and learned practitioners. A very good resource.

Wonderful thumbnail astrological analysis

This little book cuts to the astrological chase in a concise, clear, exciting style. Banzhaf is a German-language writer (in translation here) whose clipped-to-the-point descriptions of all the basic astrological positions and combinations are steeped in a deep knowledge not only of the subject at hand, but of Jungian psychology, classical mythology, numerology, and Tarot. While many authors who have written valuable books on chart analysis carry on at great lengths to discuss each element of the horoscope, Banzhaf is in every case clear, concise, illuminating, and almost best of all, he supplies us with brief, pithy, mythology or psychology-derived titles for nearly every combination here--titles such as Moon in Aries--the Amazon. While this may sound simplistic on the surface, Banzhaf's deep knowledge of mythology, tarot, and depth psychology make his labels instantly clear and applicable--and separates him from many of the light-weight pop-mythologists who have littered the literary landscape in past years with their myth-lite treatises on Goddesses, etc. Astrology as a symbolic language is subject to positive and negative readings, and Banzhaf is careful to supply both the positive and negative polarities of all situations. This is a mature, insightful, serious thinker and writer, and I wish more of his books were available in English. I'd recommend this one without reservation for anyone interested in Astrology, beginner through expert.

Peter H. Feiler, senior member of technical staff at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), is technical lead and author of the SAE AADL standard. In his 27 years at the SEI he has worked on software development environments, configuration management, and real-time embedded systems. He has collaborated with the research community and has applied resulting technologies such as AADL with customers in avionics, space, and automotive industries, as well as government programs.

David P. Gluch, formerly senior member of the technical staff at SEI and now a visiting scientist there, is a professor of software engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He has held key engineering and technical management positions with high-tech firms where he developed real-time software-intensive systems for commercial fly-by-wire aircraft control, automated process control, and the Space Shuttle.

The ONLY book on AADL... Luckily it is a GREAT ONE!!!!

I have attempted to learn AADL and how to use OSATE several times over the years. I would read a good article on it and think to myself I can figure it out this time.

A day or two into the adventure I would get frustrated with the toolset and getting it configured correctly, and the scattered and confusing details of AADL would put the nail in the coffin of my past attempts.

I was hoping this book would not have me repeating history. I am glad to report it didn't. Finally a resource that puts AADL information into a learnable format.

The book starts off with a nice introduction to model-based software systems engineering and does a good job of putting a AADL into context by comparing it to SysML, VHDL, and UML.

The book is broken down into two main parts and then has some appendixes. I have listed the parts along with the chapters they contain below.

The book is broken down into a nice logical flow that starts with simple models and as it continues the authors grow the models complexity.

In Part I the authors use a sample system that builds a powerboat autopilot architecture. By the end of Part I you have a detailed understanding of the AADL capabilities.

In Part II the authors take you on a detailed tour of all the critical elements in AADL. After a describing the different categories the AADL components fall into the authors spend several chapters going into great detail on how to use them.

The book includes a big appendix that summarizes AADL syntax and grammar rules, lists the component type and implementation elements, lists the basic property types and type constructors, lists the AADL reserved words, and the AADL properties.

The authors have a really good writing style which makes the content not only easier read but also easy to understand.

There were only two things that would have made life easier while learning AADL using the book. The authors should make the samples used throughout the book available online for download. There is a lot of typing to do to get the examples working.

The second thing is better coverage of configuring the Open Source AADL Tool Environment (OSATE) used to create the models in the book. The best thing to do is to download TOPCASED (do yourself a favor and download and run the RCP downloads), then install OSATE2, Xtext, and ADELE using the Eclipse Install New Software feature on the Help menu, and uninstall OSATE1 which comes with TOPCASED using the Installation Details button on the About Eclipse dialog. If you are reading this on Amazon, Google for "Tad Anderson Model-Based Engineering with AADL Book review". My blog review includes the links I can't include on Amazon.

These two dings don't take anything away from the book, and they probably made me use the tool more and therefore learn more about the tool than had they spoon fed me.

This book is literally the only book on the market available for learning AADL. Luckily it's a great resource and by reading it cover to cover, working through the exercises, and building the models you will definitely learn the AADL language.

I highly recommend the book to anyone who wants to learn AADL!!!

Not as advertised

This book purports to be the "definitive guide to alcoholic beverages" but omits not only sake (a major omission) but also any other East Asian alcoholic drinks such as baiju or soju. It should be more accurately called "The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Western Alcoholic Beverages" because it is only about beer, wine and Western liquors; any non-Western beverages included are in the Western-style: wine, beer, etc.

In addition the information included is not very well organized or presented. Anyone new to drinking alcohol would be hard-pressed to find definitions to terms known by experienced drinkers; this book assumes a previous knowledge of alcohol and is not for novices. Also, the authors are obviously British and have a strong British bias. For example, British wines get a full sub-chapter with large title and nice multi-page spread, while a country like Greece gets a few paragraphs in the Other European section. This is egregious because the UK is not known at all for its wine... Greece on the other hand while not a modern wine powerhouse like France, Italy or Germany is the original wine country of Europe having a history of winemaking going back thousands of years.

The authors do seem to know a lot about wine and beer but also have to make a point of showing everyone how clever they are and offer their very important observations and opinions on everything. Just for once I wish I could read about wine or beer without any snobiness.

On the plus side there are lots of pretty pictures.

If you like wine or beer you MIGHT find something to like here if you can get over the authors' obvious British bias and snootiness; otherwise stay away - especially if you are seeking a definitive guide to alcohol.

I like this book; it contains lots of interesting history. However, its usefulness is limited by the lack of a glossary of "drinking" terms. I find myself constantly having to check a dictionary or the internet to make sense of some of the passages.

Excellent book. Madhav and Riya make a good story and it takes new turns when they go on spaceship and explore new intergalactical planetary systems. Book deals nicely with the poverty, terrorism, depression during world war 2 and world political problems. Or may be not, I am just hallucinating. This is a simple book with simple story. Once upon a time, there was a Bihari boy called Madhav. He fell in love with a rich girl from Delhi called Riya. Madhav did not speak English well. Riya did. Madhav wanted a relationship. Riya didn't. Riya just wanted friendship. Madhav didn't. Riya suggested a compromise. She agreed to be his half-girlfriend. Is this a book or a screen play is what kept confusing me while I was reading this book. In fact I could see someone like Arjun/ Ranveer playing Madhav and Deepika playing a Ria. This is a book with the complete dialogues of a movie, sentence after sentence. Every page of the book feels like it has been written to be made into a movie. So much that the book is separated into three sections called Acts. Talking about the book, it is very much in the genre of the author s previous offerings. Boy meets girl in a cool campus (moving away from the IIT/ IIM to Stephens, probably in an attempt to widen the reader base), and falls in love. Add some drama, a little sex (must in a CB book), whole lot of daily life situations and some emotionally moving dialogues. You have a story ready. There is not much relevance of the title in the book, and it seems more a ploy to fulfil the authors fetish obsession with numbers (all his books have a number in them). Also, as it was touted in the media, there is not much relevance of the Language divide those who know English and those who don t. This again seems like a concept that has been force fitted into the theme of the book, to make it relevant to the present day reader. This is one thing that Chetan Bhagat needs to be given complete credit for. He knows the pulse of the nation and what the present day youth is thinking. About the Author
Chetan Bhagat published his first novel first novel 'Five Point Someone' in 2004 and this very first venture took him to the peaks of fame and popularity. The book depicted the story of an IIT student who considers himself to be below average than all the other students in IIT. This book won the Society Young Achiever's Award and Publisher's Recognition Award. The story was adopted into a film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and starred famous Bollywood stars like Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor. His second book was 'One Night At A Call Center' and this too was a great success. This book was made into a movie and was named 'Hello' and Chetan himself wrote the script. The movie was noted by the special appearance of Bollywood star Salman Khan and was an average hit. His next novel has cricket as the major theme. It is named 'Three Mistakes of My Life'. His fourth book is named 'Two States'.

My brother recommended this book. I bought it but it took me a while before i started reading it. The title of the book actually made me more curious.

It took a while before the title :half girlfriend, was defined. I didnt like it but i needed to know how the story ended.

I find the story unbelievable. But i enjoyed reading about india, its culture, food and the words. Unfortuantely, i ran into a wall when i tried using the dictionary on my kindle to understand some of the indian words.

i gave it 4 stars because the author was not boring in narrating the story. The author used different places to make it interesting for me to just keep reading the book. I liked it and hope to see an improvement on the author's next storyline.

Very touching novel. Very real issues experienced by migrants...spoke to issues experienced by women ,rural towns and their struggles, highlighted the economic n political issues experienced in many rural areas. Most importantly it speaks to one person's determination to improve these issues and to fight for the love of his live. Lots of live lessons were learnt, never run away from your problems somehow one day you will have to face them.People dislike and discourage what they don't understand once you believe in your heart don't let people dissuade you.....Finally there are still some good people with big hearts out there...Not sure if this was a true story but great technique Chetan

Different, cute and entertaining

This book was suggested by amazon when it was available on kindle for free. I said: why not? I was having a difficult time and was desperate for something unusual to take my mind away from trouble. I've never heard of Chetan before, was never encouraged to read an India-based love story and I'm not really into basketball either, so for me to pick it up was plain luck.

I found the story endearing and hopeful, being the main lesson to never give up. On anything. If you can dream, you certainly can do.
